airvase BETAZOME
Dyed by BUAISOU

#7 of the Airvase Artist Collaboration Series. An artist series collaboration with indigo farmer and dyer BUAISOU.

Airvases are gently hand dyed to protect the delicate shapes, using the BETAZOME technique for a solid indigo color.

This is a paper bowl that envelopes air. It is possible to create various shapes by pulling it in different directions. The paper is thin and light, but when expanded it is rigid and strong enough to stand alone. Enjoy the beautiful color of indigo in 3D with these airvases individually dyed by indigo farmer and dyer BUAISOU.

*Caution
Because the products are handmade, each item’s colors and patterns are unique. The dye may react to ultraviolet rays such as sunlight and discoloration may occur. Please keep away from excessive ultraviolet rays or sunlight.

BUAISOU(Indigo farmer and dyer)

Tokushima prefecture is known as the production area of Awa Indigo. We do everything from Indigo cultivation to creating dye and creation of products. The indigo dye of BUAISOU, uses a traditional technique which is called “Jigoku date” (meaning: producing hell) mixing wood lye, bran and shell-ash, followed by a fermentation process. This is the most difficult dye to produce in the world. This Indigo dye becomes a deep and beautiful color and does not run like other dyes. Together with product development, we work extensively in Japan and abroad, including workshops and exhibitions.
